Empty Nest
2014
Location: Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, France
Sainte-Chapelle was built in the 13th century by King Louis IX to house the crown of thorns. An elaborate shrine picture above was designed to house it. The supposed relic cost him more than the chapel and shrine together (about 500 million euros in today's currency). The relic is now kept at Notre Dame where is is displayed the first Friday of the month and every Friday during Lent along with a piece of the True Cross and Crucifixion Nail. The glorious shrine nothing more than an empty nest.
